PERAYAAN TADAU KAAMATAN
This festival is celebrated by the Kadazan community in Sabah every May, after the paddy harvest. To celebrate this festival, cakes and “tapai”, a traditional rice wine, are prepared. It is normally celebrated over two days. On the first night, the “magavau” or worshipping of the paddy spirit is led by the priestess or “bobohizan” and several of her helpers. On the second night, the “habot” ceremony is done where fermented rice is given to the bobohizan as a sign of gratitude and happiness. Guests will be entertained by the Sumazau and Megalang dances while drinking tapai.
