PERAYAAN DEEPAVALI
This festival is celebrated by the Hindus on a dark half of Kartik called “aippasi” in October and November. Deepavali means “Row of Lights”. By lighting lamps, it is believed that the brightness will overcome the darkness, good overcome evil, justice triumphs over cruelty and wisdom prevails. In the morning, the Hindus will clean themselves by applying a small amount of oil on their head and taking a bath. They will then pray at home or in temples, after which they will visit their relatives. In many homes, “rangoli” or drawings made out of coloured rice will be put on the lawn to greet the visitors.
