CHINESE NEW YEAR
This festival is celebrated by the Chinese in Malaysia to welcome the coming of the New Year, according to their lunar calendar. The Chinese believes there are 12 animals protecting their lunar calendar which are: the rat, the bull, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog and the pig.
On the night of the New Year, the whole family will gather together to strengthen the family bond. The giving of “angpow” or money in red packets is carried out by those who are married. The Chap Goh Mei festival is celebrated at the end of the Chinese New Year celebration.
