Custom

Customs are usually linked with a traditional set of values practised from generation to generation. However, the custom practised by the Sabah’s natives has now changed to follow in line with their development and faith.

Religion and Faith

Islam is the oldest religion which has taken root and developed in Sabah. The biggest Muslim ethnic groups are the Brunei, ”Bajau Kadayan” and “Idahan”. Unlike some tribes of Kadazan Dusun, Murut, Rungus and other ethnicity, they still follow animism (for those who live deep in the jungle). They believe their ancestor’s spirit will always look after and guard each step they make. They also feel that the spirits play a part in determining in the future. It is not a surprise to find some of them who have embraced Islam or Christianity still practice animism and worship.
