Deal marks Polytechnic-JKKN collaboration

Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic on Wednesday signed a Note of Understanding (NoU) with the National Culture and Art Department (JKKN) to mark their official collaboration in studies and practical skills related to art and culture.

Its Director, Roslee Yahya, said the collaboration would offer exposure to the students in terms of introducing them to local art and culture, as well as to assist in the fluidity of knowledge transfer.

"We have always been encouraged to make collaborations with public and private agencies.

Therefore, the NoU will offer many benefits especially in getting teaching staff and knowledge transfer.

"Students will have a chance to participate in activities organised by JKKN which would eventually expose them to local cultures," he told the press after the signing ceremony.

In another ceremony, Roslee officiated at the Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic Art Culmination Night organised by its Sports, Co-curriculum and Culture Department.

He said the programme is a great platform to uphold local art and culture among students especially in musical and dancing elements.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Jakarta State Polytechnic, led by its Student Affairs Assistant Director Dr Lenny Brida.

Dr Lenny said the visit was to discuss possible collaborations between the two institutions.

"We are here to discuss possible collaborations between the two institutions. The collaborations would not only include cultural integration but also lecturer transfers and scientific publications.

"It is high time for the Asean community to work together to produce world-class graduates as agreed in the Asean Economic Community agreement," she said, adding that higher learning institutions are responsible to equip graduates with survival skills.

The event saw dance performances by students from both institutions and a singing competition.

Also present were National Culture and Art Department Director Mohd. Raizuli Jusoh, Indonesian Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Soepeno Sahid, Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic Assistant Director (Academic Support) Samat Saiun @ Soion and other officers.
