Foreign tourists join in merriment at Iftar@KL 2019 event

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Iftar@KL 2019 programme organised for the eighth year by the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) has attracted foreign tourists to join in the breaking-of-fast meal giving them the opportunity to learn the significance of Ramadan to Muslims.

German tourist Veronica Kathleen, 40, said she was excited to join the masses in breaking the fast and could sense the joy and happiness of sharing the meal together.

"This is my first breaking-of-fast experience amidst all the gaiety and I think having a special meal with people you hardly know is such a unique programme," she told Bernama after the Iftar@ KL 2019 event here today.

Mansoor Ahmed, 43, an Australian working in Malaysia, said that although he has been living here for four years, this is the first time he is participating in the event.

"Usually my family and I will go to the nearby Ramadan bazaar to buy food and we break our fast at home, but when I saw so many organisations and volunteers joining in the feast I thought, why not.

“This programme will certainly attract more foreign tourists to Malaysia. We could feel the 'warmth' of the people and you can’t experience this amazing cordiality anywhere else, apart from learning more about the cultures and religions here,” said Mansoor who has been in Malaysia for four years.

The event organised every Saturday and Sunday throughout Ramadan, at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall City Theatre Building at Jalan Raja will next be held on May 25 and 26.
